All members of DACOR are encouraged to attend the
Huston Musicales, ADST/DACOR book launch receptions, and receptions for
newly commissioned Foreign Service Officers and their spouses and for new
chiefs of mission and their spouses attending FSI’s Ambassadorial Seminar.
There is no charge for the events listed above but reservations are
required. Members are also encouraged to attend luncheon/lectures in the
Forum and Newberry Series, for which the charge is $15 per person. Dacorians
may make reservations for their guests.
Luncheon lectures begin at noon with a reception in
honor of the speaker. There is a cash bar. Lunch starts at 12:30 pm,
followed by the speaker’s remarks. These events should conclude by 2:00 pm;
attendees are free to leave at that time.
DACOR welcomes speakers on many topics and encourages
vigorous expression and questioning of points of view, while striving for
balance. No endorsement of speakers’ views or of their charitable,
professional, or commercial bona fides should be inferred.

reservations voice mailbox, 202-682-0500, ext. 15. Cancellations received
prior to 9:00 am on the day before the event will be honored; members who
cancel later or do not appear will be billed. DACOR Bacon House is
accessible by persons with disabilities; walkers are available. Please call

FUNERALS
/ MEMORIALS
Honorary DACOR Governor and Ambassador Lucius (Luke) D. Battle died at his
home in Washington on May 13 at age 89.
The
funeral will take place this Saturday, May 17, at 10:00am at Christ Church
in Georgetown at 3116 O Street, NW.
Retired Foreign Service Officer and DACOR member Robert W Moore died
on Friday, May 9, 2008. He is survived by his wife, Jean Moore; sons,
John, William and Daniel; and grandchildren, Andrew, Kathryn and Ian.
A
memorial service is planned. Details to follow as they become available.

Retired Foreign Service Officer and DACOR member Bernard F. Shinkman,
known to all his friends and colleagues as "Buck", died on Monday, May
5, 2008..

David D. Newsom, a former ambassador and under secretary of state for
political affairs, died in Charlottesville, Virginia, on March 29 at age 90.
He leaves his wife, Jean Newsom.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 29 from 2:00 pm -
3:00 pm. The service will be held on the Georgetown Campus at
Gaston Hall on the 3rd floor of the Healy Building, which is across from
the main Georgetown gate at 37th and O Streets. There will be a reception to
follow at the Riggs Library, which is also located on the 3rd floor of the
same building.
Parking will be available in the Visitor Lot, Southwest Garage. Please
enter from Canal Road; you will receive a reduced parking rate of $2.00 by
mentioning the Newsom Memorial Service.
The service is open to anyone, but organizers are requiring an
RSVP.
