DACOR Newberry Cultural Series

The Newberry Committee, chaired by Susanne Newberry, hosts speakers from September through June, on the third Wednesday of the month. These events are announced in the Bulletin.

They begin with a reception (cash bar) at noon, followed by lunch ($20/person) at 12:30 pm. The speaker delivers remarks from 1:15 to 1:45 pm, and responds to attendees’ questions until the event concludes at 2:00 pm. Guests accompanied by members are welcome.

MR. FREDERICK FISHER

Director of Hillwood Museum

“Marjorie Merriweather Post, Turning Cereal into Gold

Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at noon

Mr. Frederick J. Fisher is Executive Director of the Hillwood Estate, Museum and Gardens, the former Washington, DC, estate of Marjorie Merriweather Post. 

Mr. Fisher has been Director of the Hillwood since 1990 and he has been instrumental in its professional reorganization.  Over the last ten years, the museum has been successfully engaged in a scholarly publications initiative and has completely revised its interpretative programming; Hillwood has also undergone three phases of facilities enhancement under Mr. Fisher. 

Prior to Hillwood, Mr. Fisher was a museum administrator for thirty-five years and among his previous positions held, he was Assistant Director of the Krannert Art Museum, University of Illinois and Director of The Hyde Collection, Glens Falls, New York.
